Eric Bronson UPAA Photographer of the Year

UPAA is proud to announce that Eric Bronson, senior photographer at the University of Michigan, has won the Photographer of the Year (POY) award for 2015. Dave Suarez, Canon USA, was on hand to present Eric with the award. (photo by Jay Ferchaud)

Eric broke out early as the Monthly Image Contest leader last September and never looked back. After coming close several times in previous contests, Eric captured his first MIC overall prize and then capped off the year by also winning his second UPAA POY, accumulating an impressive amount of winners in the Annual Print Competition. Eric placed five out six prints in the APC that included first places in Sports Action and Science & Research, along with a second place in Sports Features and honorable mentions in both Sports Action and Sports Features.

As Eric explains, “This one (POY) was different because this time I knew what it took and that I could do it. I was so surprised the first time (2013). So this time I focused a bit more on a shoot here and there and really tried to push it a little further to see what I could come up with. Honestly, looking back, this helped me push myself a bit more and I learned a lot along the way. I was really excited to win on my home turf, which made winning POY that more special.”

The Photographer of the Year receives a camera outfit from Canon USA, and a special trophy from the UPAA. Eric also earned POY honors in 2013.
